Local film critic and podcaster Matthew Turner returns for a third mini season of film noir classics, which will run exclusively at Chiswick Cinema throughout November 2026. "Along with Double Indemnity and Sunset Boulevard, Robert Siodmak's crime thriller has one of the all-time great noir opening scenes, as a pair of gun-toting killers arrive in a small town and execute The Swede (Burt Lancaster), who makes no effort to resist his own death. Synopsis: Two hit men walk into a diner asking for a man called "the Swede" (Burt Lancaster). When the killers find the Swede, he's expecting them and doesn't put up a fight. Since the Swede had a life insurance policy, an investigator (Edmond O'Brien), on a hunch, decides to look into the murder.
